RE: [Plug] RE: NT Rant

I don't have an issue with NT's reliability in all cases. It just depends
on what's running on the box.

Most instabilities I have experienced are the result of multiple variables
(drivers, software, service patch, etc.).

If you're lucky and have a good mix you will see a reliable system (I have).
But in my experience the majority of systems, particularly workstations do
not share that success.

I single out workstations specifically to point out that servers are less
prone to being reliable once they are up and running because they are
changed infrequently. We tend to add/delete/change frequently on our
workstations.

That said I don't have any of these like issues with Linux. If I have an
unstable subsystem it affects the subsystem not the entire box and I can
back it out and try something else relatively painlessly.

I don't have a Linux system of my own (yet), so I use NTW4.0 five days a
week.
Frankly, I haven't had
a "blue screen of death" in over a month now, and this is typical. Of
course, I
turn it off at the end of
each day - for security, and after all, we all know it won't run for a full
week
without crashing, so why
bang my head on a brick wall?

Curiously, what seems to bring the crashes on most reliably is anything
involving the diskette drive -
especially diskcopy.

Others may get different mileage.
