Explain a bit. Dnews and some of the nntpcache programs ask only for articles
on demand. There are suck feeds. Almost always the word among people who
aren't the Dnews developers is that this is fine for smaller sites.

Ask in news.software.nntp about the feasibility of this. Most sites don't want to rely on their peers' idea of good retention.

There have been some suggestion that sites specialize, but the flood fill model has certain advantages -- the readers aren't all converging on one place to get a file.

That's an unusually good acceptance rate from Supernews, and I don't think we
posted 17,748 articles yesterday. Supernews then feeds that to their other
machines, so I probably don't put that many articles through their system.
