<SIGH>

It's not just /usr; in trying to backup /home, I get reiserfs errors; kernel
panics; hard freezes; all kinds of crap. So I be totally hosed, apparently.

I'm trying to delete as much as possible out of /home, and crossing my
fingers that one of the backups to a spare HD will at least finish, so I can
save as much as I can. Time to be strict and ruthless in deciding what is
worth saving. Then I slash and burn and start all over from scratch.

I'm thinking ext3 from now on ... :-)

pax is available for Debian, but I can't get an apt-get to run.

Thank goodness this old laptop still works, so that I can do email, in the
meantime.
