Even that is a bit of a workaround.  Integrating snapshots with
removals might be a better approach.

On a COW filesystem removing a file completely actually takes MORE
effort than snapshotting it and keeping it around and just making it
disappear from the current view.

With COW you still lose space to keep the snapshot around, but you
don't lose performance.  Arguably, then, the better approach is to
snapshot it until you need the space for something else.
