It also works like a mailing list as far as I'm aware.  As in, you can
subscribe, when people send emails to the list or post online you get
emails sent to you, and when you reply to them everybody gets your
replies.

That was why I suggested looking at it.

I tend to agree on these points.  I just figured it was worth thinking
about if we're making a change.  I suspect it would be more of an
alternative to something like Google Groups than Mailman itself.  I've
never actually used it but I've heard of it, and was more curious
about whether anybody heard anything specific about it being good/bad.
I agree that it doesn't seem essential, especially for a small group
like this.
