On Sprint, the tether and access point options are in the phone, regardless of your plan, but are disabled if you don't have the $30/month option.
I have tethering on my work BB plan, but Verizon's data is so slow compared to Sprint. Plus, getting it to work on Linux with the ppp dialer never seems reliable. I hope easy tether works well.
