Re: [PLUG] TV Remote Control Ideas Needed

For a bit more that you can file under "interesting but not suited to the OP question", there is an XBMC/Kodi remote control app has has the ability for some time now to act as a sort of combo remote control and frontend for another device. I've had my HTPC playing a TV show and been browsing and selecting the next thing to watch from my Nexus 10, and it just does some software magic over the wifi when I tell it to, and switches what the HTPC is playing.
Not suited to the original question, but can be a fun party trick/time-wasting tinker project.

I agree that Harmony is your answer. But I'd figure I'd add this note for people who use xbmc/kodi stuff. I use a thing called Flirc which is a programmable IR receiver that plugs into your usb port. It translates the mapped IR signals to keystrokes (when you plug in the device it registers as a keyboard to the system). Then I got an old/unused remote and ran the easy mapping program.  (flirc.tv)

Just informational - not that this applies to Casey.

I was hoping for a LED attachment and an android ap, but I guess nobody's
created such a creature yet.

I just ordered a Harmony, so I guess I'll be covered.   it would be much
cooler to have a cheap tablet for a remote though.  <sigh>
