Debian (and related) is doing the "127.0.1.1" thing in /etc/hosts, but
I'm not sure why. Perhaps a systemd thing?
Maybe check for IPA and hostname conflicts or unexpected values with
something like:
egrep -iR "$HOSTNAME|localhost|127\.0| \
/etc/host* /etc/ssh* ~/.ssh/config*
